The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
